I started writing because I couldn’t find the books I needed.

I’ve spent more than two decades working in schools as a special education teacher, director, university professor, and school leader. I’ve worked in rural Michigan, in a university School of Education, and in international schools in South Korea and China.

In every setting, I saw the same pattern: good educators grinding themselves down trying to compensate for systems that weren’t designed to support them. Burnout that got labeled a personal problem. Leadership that kept relationships strong but couldn’t make improvement stick.

I wrote Stay Grounded and Beyond Relationships because the books I wanted for the educators I worked with didn’t exist. Not self-care advice dressed up as strategy. Real frameworks, built from real experience, that treat educators as the professionals they are.
